Dimarche (Sunday) The warm fire warmed us, but my back still ached as we shivered our hungry traveled bodies to sleep.
Lundi (Monday) Backing under the overhang, I pulled my snow covered shoes on and crunched into a baguette to feed my sorrows.
Mardi (Tuesday) The Brits led Alan and I to our roof at the elephant, but the lass’ were not satisfied with their discovery of few dry boulders in this forest. Continue reading
“I don’t regret this one bit, I don’t regret this one bit, I don’t…” What is a mantra? Webster says “A word or phrase that is to be chanted repetitively in an effort to empty the mind and attain “cosmic con-sciousness” (oneness with God and the universe).” By definition my chant is not a mantra, perhaps a conscious decision through subliminal repetition to alter my reality….. 1024×769 volume 2
In this tour of duty to create a much better world for all of us to live in, I am in constant pursuit of a better self. Military tactics are of no use in my mission. I have an arsenal of meditation, books like Sidartha, 7 years of tri-weekly religious school, and amazing people to learn from. I have even gone so far as to partner my professional life with this passion. However it never seems to surprise me how jealous, determined, and competitive I feel when a strong female rightfully sends my project faster than I. Continue reading
Escape from the 1024×768
“In through the nose, out through the nose. Use the stomach as a tunnel to move air. Suck it in to your spine. Head up! now tuck your right leg behind your left year while flexing your foot. I said flex not point.” Oh it is hard to concentrate right now. I don’t know which way is up, rather than the difference between flex and point. But my Yoga teacher, she comes over to physically move my foot into the position she commanded. It’s 6:45pm on a Monday, I’ve been at work since 7:30am and I’m exhausted from just about everything. Richard Hamming “You and Your Research”
Transcription of the Bell Communications Research Colloquium Seminar 7 March 1986
J. F. Kaiser Bell Communications Research 445 South Street Morristown, NJ 07962-1910 jfk@bellcore.com
At a seminar in the Bell Communications Research Colloquia Series, Dr. Richard W. Hamming, a Professor at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California and a retired Bell Labs scientist, gave a very interesting and stimulating talk, `You and Your Research’ to an overflow audience of some 200 Bellcore staff members and visitors at the Morris Research and Engineering Center on March 7, 1986. This talk centered on Hamming’s observations and research on the question “Why do so few scientists make significant contributions and so many are forgotten in the long run?” From his more than forty years of experience, thirty of which were at Bell Laboratories, he has made a number of direct observations, asked very pointed questions of scientists about what, how, and why they did things, studied the lives of great scientists and great contributions, and has done introspection and studied theories of creativity. The talk is about what he has learned in terms of the properties of the individual scientists, their abilities, traits, working habits, attitudes, and philosophy. Continue reading
This is a speech I wrote for a good friends wedding.
“Why the Ring is Round”
In the beginning there was a peace, an everlasting unification of existence That existence was separated into two parts, known as the duality of life. From it formed many opposing forces. Up and down, left and right, good and bad, less taste, more filling, right and wrong, shorts and pants, Male and Female Continue reading
